Are Pools Worth the Risk?

A private pool can be tons of fun. It can also serve as an investment to greatly increase the value of your home. However, pools also carry a great deal of risk. Many homeowners want to know if pools are worth the risk.

Remember, if you install a pool in your home, pool safety becomes your responsibility. To keep yourself and everyone near you safe, you need to learn about the risks of having a pool before installing one.

Once you’ve learned about these risks, you can do everything in your power to keep those you love safe. If you understand how to use a pool safely, a pool is definitely worth the risk.

Making Your Pool Safe—How to Do It

Making your pool safe is surprisingly easy with help from the right pool safety professionals. It can even be fun, and serve as a complement to the way your pool looks.

There are two things you need to consider when making your pool safe: what’s in the water and what’s around the pool.

In order to keep your pool water safe, always keep it treated according to your local pool expert or the pool manufacturer’s instructions. In addition to keeping pool users safe from bacterial infection, this will extend the life of your pool and prevent unsightly damage like chipping.

Keeping the area around your pool safe can be equally easy. First of all, it’s important to make sure you keep a first aid kit on hand, and never let anyone use your pool unsupervised.

Secondly, you need to make sure that diving boards are installed properly, if you have them at all. Legal regulations require that diving boards only be installed above at least eight feet of water in most localities, and the Red Cross actually recommends nine feet at minimum.

Last but certainly not least, you need to make sure that you have a pool fence installed, and that it’s a great one.

Having a pool fence installed is a hugely important step in making your pool safe. It’s one of the simplest ways to prevent accidental drowning deaths.

In addition to helping you keep people in your home and neighborhood safe, installing a high, strong pool fence will ensure that you meet all legal regulations for pool owners. It can also greatly compliment the look of your pool area.
